Sunday School at the Rez
The Sunday School continues to enjoy the blessing and presence of the Lord Jesus! There are some 80-90 children registered with an average attendance of 50-60. As you can imagine, Sunday mornings are a beehive of activity!
When the children first arrive downstairs, they have a time of Children’s Worship, followed by age-divided classes. The age groupings changed this year to correspond to the new curriculum: Preschool; Junior Kindergarten; Senior Kindergarten/Grade 1; Grade 2/3; Grade 4/5.
Our seasoned and new teachers are pleased with the solid Biblical content, up-dated visuals, and creative teaching methods that the curriculum we use provides. The curriculum tries to be sensitive to the different learning styles of children. We have been blessed with many willing and excellent teachers. A strong personal faith in Christ, some Bible knowledge, and a love for children are the main requirements.
Junior Youth Group
The junior youth group consists of young people in Grades 6-8. They have their own separate program during morning worship led by our Youth Director and a few volunteers.
Cool School (Summer Program)
During the summer a modified Sunday School program is offered in which all the children meet together.
Special Events
a) Palm Sunday: We have our early morning bagel breakfast, followed by a lively parade around the neighborhood. Nearly 70 people join in, playing instruments and waving palm branches to remember Jesus’s entrance into Jerusalem.
b) Sunday School Closing and Church Picnic: Children involved in the Scripture memory program present their scriptures. The whole Sunday School sings some of their songs. A picnic and games are held in the churchyard following the closing service in June.
c) Parish Weekend: A special Children’s Program is arranged for the Parish Weekend, held each October.
d) Special Services: A series of special services for children (and their families) held throughout the year. These all involve drama, “hands on” activities, and music that is accessible to children.
- Christmas Eve
- Good Friday morning service
- Sunday School closing service
e) Theater and Drama: Each year at Christmastime we put on a Sunday School drama retelling the story of Jesus’ birth. Children and youth of all ages are involved, and each year it is extremely well done, with different themes and aspects emphasized from this central story.
Outreach Components
a) World Vision: Each Sunday the offerings that the children bring are given towards the support of the children that our church sponsors through World Vision. During Advent the children’s offerings were sent to a special World Vision program in which particular items could be bought for a family in a Developing Country.
b) Operation Christmas Child: Once again this year many of our children took a special shoe box to fill with small gifts for a boy or girl in a third world or war-torn country. Imagine the delight on the face of thousands of children in other countries, receiving a gift in the name of Christ from Canada.
Goals
The Lord has ordained parents to demonstrate the Lord’s love and teach their children his ways. In the Sunday School we wish to support parents in this endeavor. It is hoped that a Teacher-Parent Encouragement event will move us in this direction. Please let us know if there is any further way we can assist you as parents. We are also helping to get some skilled assistance from our new staff member in caring for our youth.
